What's New For the 2019 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid?

The IONIQ is available in three tiers: a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, or a completely electric model that you can find in limited places. The biggest change for this model year is the Hybrid SEL automatic emergency braking. This has been standardized for the SEL, rather than being an optional add-on.

Which Features are Available for 2019?

There are three main trims for the IONIQ Hybrid: Blue, the standard trim; SEL, the next level up; and Limited, the top tier trim.

The standard Blue trim has a combined MPG of 58. It features smart proximity key technology with push-button starting. You also get a 7-inch touchscreen that displays in color and plays audio. It's pre-downloaded with a rearview camera, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

The SEL trim comes with all the same features as the Blue. It nets a combined MPG of 55, with combined horsepower of 139. With the SEL, you get automatic emergency braking capabilities along with pedestrian detection. You also have a blind spot detector and an alert for rear cross traffic. The adaptive cruise control makes it easy to relax behind the wheel. In addition, there's a power driver seat that provides lumbar support. Both front seats are heated.

The Limited trim features the same basic specs as the SEL, with the similar combined MPG of 55 and 139 combined horsepower. You also get 17-inch alloy wheels, a power tilting sunroof, and leather surfaces for your seats. Both front seats are heated. In addition, you have access to BlueLink car services should you ever find yourself in trouble.

For the Limited, you can purchase the Ultimate Package. This includes rear parking sensors, an 8-inch LCD screen display and navigation system, an 8 speaker premium audio system, wireless charging of devices, a memory system for the driver's seat, and three years of the Blue Link Guidance Package.

2019 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid is a Powerful Performer

2019 Hyundai IONIQ HybridAll trims come with a fuel tank capacity of 11.9 gallons. The Blue trim has a combined MPG of 58, getting 57 MPG in the city and 59 MPG on the highway. The SEL gets 55 MPG in the city and 54 MPG on the highway for a combined total of 55 MPG. The Limited has the same specs as the SEL.

A 6-speed automatic transmission is standardized across all trims. If you want a plug-in hybrid or completely electric model, you can get them in the Limited or base trim levels. The Plug-in system uses an 8.9-kwh battery rather than a 1.56-kwh battery. The EPA estimates you'll get 29 miles on electric power.

The completely electric vehicle has a range of 124 miles. Currently, it only has availability in Southern California.

The standard engine can yield 139 horsepower. While this isn't a huge amount, the real star of the show is the fuel economy rating. The standard IONIQ Hybrid is one of the most fuel-efficient cars available that doesn't need a plug.
