On March 31st, Hyundai launched an innovative demonstration project in Dongtan, Gyeonggi-do, Korea, to showcase new accessibility features for their vehicles. This demonstration is part of a new project to improve convenience and accessibility for all drivers and passengers of Hyundai vehicles.
The project specifically showcases the R1, a modular companion tailored for those with mobility issues. R1 vehicles are designed with features such as side-door boarding, which allows passengers with mobility devices to travel comfortably alongside up to two additional passengers. For passengers with vision and hearing loss, the vehicles also come equipped with an interface that includes a high-contrast mode and a tablet installed in the rear seat for easy communication with the driver.
The R1 is complemented by Shucle, Hyundai Motor's demand-responsive mobility service. The Shucle app allows users to request vehicles for rides, significantly shortening wait times and providing accurate arrival information based on real-time demand. The initiative also includes introducing a voucher system that is available to existing voucher taxi users. This system allows users to ride up to twice a day free of charge. The system will be streamlined for users, who can receive vouchers directly through the Shucle app without needing to contact a mobility support center for authentication.
