Hyundai has just announced it will be upgrading its current infotainment system. Built to integrate smartphone technology more fully into its current Blue Link telematics system, this new tech is called the "Display Audio System."

"Hyundai will offer more technology than ever before inside affordable Hyundai models, allowing owners not only to text message through voice commands and stream their favorite music apps, but also to make calls in a safer way, and navigate using phone-based, off-board navigation through the car's screen and controls," said Cason Grover, senior group manager, cross-carline planning, Hyundai Motor America. "As affordable car buyers are often younger, Hyundai aims to provide what they want most in their car - all the latest smartphone-enabled technologies at a lower price."

This new outreach to younger car shoppers makes Hyundai one of the first automakers to attempt to fully integrate smartphone apps into their infotainment system. And the fact that they are debuting it on some of their most affordable models means that many young professionals will be flocking to Hyundai's new 2016 models.

So what does this new system entail? According to a recent press release, the new Display Audio System will sport a high-res 7-inch color touchscreen that will be "optimized specifically for smartphone integrations." The new system will not include an embedded navigation system or a CD player - a moment of silence please - meaning that drivers will simply link their phone to the Display Audio System and use their current apps that already provide those services. All of this will work simultaneously with Hyundai's Blue Link telematics system, thus providing the driver with the most well-rounded experience possible.

The Display Audio System currently works with Apple iPhones and Androids, but Hyundai is looking to expand this system not only to more cars, but also to more smartphones as the system begins to settle.
