Hyundai Digital Key, Key Fob and Key Card

If you have a vehicle with Hyundai Digital Key, you may be wondering what the advantages are and how to use it. The Hyundai Digital Key is a helpful feature that allows you to use your phone to unlock and start your car. The feature was available for the first time with the 2020 Hyundai Sonata. You don't have to carry a regular car key with you. You have secure access to your vehicle, as the Digital Key system uses secure technology to ensure you and authorized users are the only ones who can enter the car.

Getting Started

Before you can set up Hyundai Digital Key you'll need to make sure that you have the right technology. A compatible smartphone with Android technology is required for the system. Additionally, the phone must have at least a version 7.0 operating system or later. You also need Bluetooth 4.0 or a later edition. The phone should have Near Field Communication (NFC) as well. The system can still be operated if your phone supports only Bluetooth or NFC, but you may not have access to all the features that you would if it supported both technologies.

Set up a MyHyundai Account

Once you've verified that you have supporting smartphone technology, you can set up a MyHyundai account if you do not have one yet. Setting up an account lets you connect your phone with the car's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). After creating your unique login information for the account, you can register your Hyundai's VIN and download the app that you'll need for the program. The app, which is called the Hyundai Digital Key app, is available through Google Play. When you register your smartphone, you should also register the Digital Key Smart Card that came with your car. The Smart Card will be set up with the same PIN as your phone, and it can be used to access your car if you don't have your phone handy.

Registering & Pairing Your Phone

After downloading the app, you are ready for phone pairing. First, start your vehicle. You'll then need to hit the "+" button with the app to sync your phone. Put the phone on the car's wireless charging, and pairing will start automatically. Your Hyundai will notify you when pairing is complete.
